Chakra 5 – The Throat

Chakra 5 activates between the ages of 6.5 to 8.5 in the first instance and then again every seven years as described earlier to revisit the issues that are addressed by this chakra as we mature, revising and renewing old programming that no longer applies in our life.

The Sanskrit chakra system consisting of the traditional seven chakras can be seen to be made up of three lower chakras, which comprise the so-called ‘Lower Self’ and the three higher chakras, five, six and seven, which comprise the ‘Higher Self’.As described in my last post, the Heart Chakra lies in between, as the pivotal centre balancing the Lower and Higher Selves. We can better understand what is meant by these terms when we recognise that the three lower centres (one, two and three) are concerned with our destiny in the world outside of ourselves and how we survive on a very practical level. They deal with such issues as survival, money, intimacy and empowerment, each of which involves others in our life to a greater or lesser degree. The higher centres (five, six and seven) are concerned with our perceptions and values and how we ‘see’ ourselves in the bigger picture and can be more or less described as our relationship with ourselves and the life force/Spirit that animates us.

Chakra Five then is the first chakra that takes us on an inner journey, into awareness of our place in the world and the unique contribution we make to the bigger picture. It is often called the ‘bridge’ between the physical and spiritual.

Ether is the element of the fifth chakra. Ether is fine particulate matter so small that the particles cannot be seen by the naked eye. It is the substance that moves through the meridians of the body, described and mapped thousands of years ago by the Chinese and utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Known as Qi, it responds to thought; “where thought goes, qi flows is an axiom of TCM. It is known in esoteric circles as ‘etherium fluidum’ and as the name suggests has the nature of flowing through the body.

On the physical level it relates to the throat region and the organs of speech and hearing. It rules the rate of the metabolism via the thyroid and bone strength via the parathyroid. It can truly be seen as the centre which shapes the physical structure by driving the vibratory rate at which the organism functions. In the Book of Genesis the statement ‘and the Word was made flesh’ truly describes the power of sound and the potential inherent in this chakra.

On the emotional level it elates to the spontaneity of creative expression, ease of communication, satisfaction, depression, frustration, isolation.

On the mental level, it relates to the clarity with which we form our intentions: when based on intuitive wisdom and a strong sense of personal empowerment, we express our ideas coherently and positively. Our self-talk is free of self-criticism, and self-negation. We follow the path of our bliss with ease.

The consciousness of this chakra is characterized by joyous, creative self-expression that comes about from a strong sense of self-control and self-mastery. It is the realm of consciousness that creates, controls, transmits and receives communication both within ourselves and between each other.

The fifth chakra is the centre of dynamic creativity. Connected to creative intelligence, it registers the creative purpose of the soul, transmitted to it by the inflow of energy from the sixth chakra. The fusion of these two centres leads to creative activity. It embraces listening, speaking, writing, chanting, telepathy and any of the arts, especially those related to sound and language.

To get an idea of how balanced your Throat Chakra (Chakra Five) is, answer the questions below. There is no right or wrong, just an awareness of how well you express your Throat Chakra in your daily life……

How would you rate your ability to communicate ideas?

Do you listen well to other’s ideas?

Are you creative?

How would you rate the resonance of your voice?

Do you harmonize well with others?

Do you engage in an art form (art, music, dance, writing)?

Spirit of Woman Australian Wild Flower Essences help to restore balance and clear distortions to the chakras. They do this powerfully but gently by re-attuning you to your best possible expression, assisting you to make decisions in your life that are life-affirming and healing.

For example, the Spirit of Woman Australian Wild Flower Essence Commelina activates a positive expression of the Throat Chakra by granting integrity to what we say, aiding communication, unblocking frozen expression and opening up to creativity.  Commelina is one of the essences in the blend Speak Easy which supports expressing our needs openly, easily and respectfully and for listening to communication from all realms – including angelic, devic and animal kingdoms. It is also in the blend Creative Muse which opens us to our unique expression and clears creative blocks. Commelina is included in Self-Heal too, which triggers the innate capacity to self heal on all levels of being.
